Ireland is due to receive a share of around 1.6m doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine bound for Europe if it is given the green light. It follows the announcement by another company Pfizer last week that its Covid-19 vaccine is 90pc effective. It is due over 3m doses of the Pfizer vaccine. "We are going to have a vaccine that can stop COVID-19," Moderna President Stephen Hoge said in a telephone interview. The data from Moderna's 30,000 participant-strong trial also showed the vaccine prevented cases of severe COVID-19, a question that still remains with the Pfizer vaccine.
