Some areas were braced to receive more than 50mm of rainfall yesterday, meaning parts of the south-east will have faced over 100mm of rainfall in just 96 hours. Met Éireann’s Gerry Murphy said Ireland had struggled to cope with rainfall levels over the past seven days that were over four times higher than January averages.
