Ireland 28 Hong Kong 7Ireland will be one of the 20 core teams in next year’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series after silencing the home crowd at the Hong Kong Sevens to book a spot at the top table. Anthony Eddy’s side got off to a perfect start when Harry McNulty broke through the middle to touch down under the posts amid boos from the packed stands, with William Dardis dropping the conversion. Tackling feverishly and not allowing the home side any space, Ireland opened up the game with two tries at the start of the second period of seven minutes as Greg O’Shea and speedster Jordan Conroy got over, with Dardis landing two conversions to make it 21-0Tom McQueen got a try back for Hong Kong and despite losing O’Shea to a yellow card, Ireland finished with a fourth try from Terry Kennedy to seal victory and a golden ticket to the top tier ahead of Olympic qualifiers later this year.
