A drone strike targeted a military base at Baghdad International Airport in Iraq late on Sunday, two security officials confirmed to AFP. According to one of the sources, the drone crashed outside the perimeter wall of the base, hitting warehouses and temporary structures in the area. The explosion also caused a fire, while authorities intervened to bring the situation under control. The military base at the airport has until recently hosted troops of the international coalition led by the United States, engaged in the fight against jihadist groups. Since the beginning of the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran, pro-Iranian armed groups in Iraq have carried out several attacks on US troops and military facilities in Iraq and other areas of the Middle East.
