Prosecutors in the southwest German city of Saarbrücken are investigating an Iran-born AfD politician over accusations that she made Islamophobic statements. A prosecutor’s office spokeswoman said on Wednesday that AfD politician Laleh Hadjimohamadvali - a candidate in the upcoming national elections - is suspected of defamation of religious groups, as well as incitement to hatred. A former member of the AfD reported the statements to authorities after the Saarbrücker Zeitung reported what she said. Saarbrücken prosecutors are also deciding whether to investigate another AfD politician who wrote on Facebook regarding people-smuggling boats: “At best, all contents on board sink. “There are also many peaceful Muslims in our country,” Wirth told the Saarbrücker Zeitung.
