International law ought to provide us with a framework to restrain and, in some cases, end tyrannical regimes like Iran. Instead, we see international law being wheeled out in defence of tyrants. If international law truly proves unable to restrain Iranian proxy terrorism, nuclear proliferation and humanitarian abuse, then international law would have failed. Against that backdrop, we are told the decisive question is whether recent strikes were a violation of international law. International law remains one of humanity’s great co-operative achievements.
