India would like to expand its economic ties with Iran but tensions between Tehran and Washington are hampering New Delhi’s efforts. Iran emerged as the top buyer of Indian tea in 2019. During these conversations, the Indian foreign minister urged both sides to keep tensions as low as possible. The US, for its part, appears not to be bothered unduly by the Chabahar port. Nevertheless, Indian investors and firms became cautious in the face of US sanctions and held back from investing in Chabahar.
