Iran released an American citizen imprisoned in the country for more than three years on allegations of spying, in a prisoner exchange that marks a rare diplomatic opening amid growing hostility between the two countries. Xiyue Wang, a Princeton academic, was arrested in Tehran in 2016 while researching century-old manuscripts and sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of espionage. U.S. officials have denied Mr. Wang was a spy.
