The mass protests began as Iran denied firing rockets at Israel on Thursday - claiming the allegations were invented by Israeli politicians to justify attacks on Syria. In return, Israel struck dozens of Iranian targets inside Syria with high-powered missiles early on Thursday as part of 'Operation House of Cards'. Israel has long expressed concern that Iran could establish a military presence in Syria amid the instability caused by Syria's long-running civil war. Iran appeared determined not to be drawn into a wider regional conflict with Israel during the sensitive negotiations. Israeli Defence Minister Minister Avigdor Lieberman urged Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to 'throw the Iranians out' from his country.
