Investors have little appetite for breakfast at McDonald’s


For a year, Americans had eagerly queued up for the McDonald’s all-day breakfast, but yesterday it appeared that their appetite for Sausage McGriddles, Egg McMuffins and Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuits was finally beginning to wane. Fourth-quarter sales at established restaurants in the United States fell by 1.3 per cent compared with the same period in 2015, the burger chain said, because of a “challenging comparison” against the launch in October that year of the “very successful” all-day breakfast menu. Together with a 5 per cent fall in overall global revenues because of a refranchising programme, investors in New York, concerned about where the next big thing in McDonald’s home market might come from, sent the shares down by 0.9 per cent to $121.17 yesterday…
