(The company changed its name to World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002 after losing a lawsuit initiated by the World Wildlife Fund over the WWF trademark.) A board investigation found that McMahon made at least $14.6 million in payments between 2006 and 2022 for “alleged misconduct,” according to regulatory filings. Pressured by the board, McMahon agreed to temporarily step down, pending the outcome of its inquiry, and Stephanie McMahon was appointed interim CEO.
