Fire and Emergency NZ southern communications shift manager Daniel Reilly said crews were called to the "well involved" fire on Swalwell St, Waikaia, about 2.50am. He said five crews from Waikaia, Riversdale and Balfour went to the blaze. Reilly said it was fair to assume the damage to the house was "extensive".
