While Kenya prides itself as one of the few African countries that relatively fund their research and development endeavours, the share dedicated to biomedical research pales in comparison with what other top nations allocate. It’s not only advanced nations that lead in biomedical research and development: South Africa, India, China and Mexico are not First World countries yet they have been making noticeable strides. Epicentres of researchIdeally, universities are meant to be epicentres of research through extensive training of students and scholars in cutting-edge research. In addition, there is a strong case for public premier research institutes in the same league as Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri).
