After a dispute about rubbish an Invercargill man ended up with a hammer embedded in his hand. John Cournane has expressed relief after his neighbour, Christopher Rex Mitchell, who Cournane said had terrorised him for years, was jailed. He went outside to find Mitchell standing by the boundary fence, yelling abuse at him and his wife, Judge Turner said. Cournane's wife tried to stop the altercation before another neighbour intervened and pushed Mitchell off the victim, Judge Turner said. The two men had known each other for many years but friction developed between them in about 2013, Judge Turner said.
