Black staff at Peel Children’s Aid Society are experiencing “harm, trauma and negative outcomes” as a result of a “corporate culture committed to white supremacy,” according to an internal report obtained by the Star. In a statement to the Star, Peel CAS chief executive Rav Bains said the organization was “very concerned” about the information in the report. “Black staff are not valued for their skills and abilities. By not listening to Black families or Black staff, Senior Leadership play an integral role in cultivating a culture of anti-Black racism,” the findings say. Research on the province’s child welfare system has shown that Indigenous and Black children are significantly more likely to be investigated and taken into care than white children.
