Starting this week, the social media giant is adding new gender options to its app, so that users can choose which term they most identify with. After selecting Custom, they can type in a custom identity, such as 'Gender Non-conforming,' 'Non-binary,' 'Queer' or whatever term they identify with. Instagram said it chose to expand its gender selection options in order to 'be more inclusive and reflective of how people self-identify today.' The move follows in the footsteps of other apps, like Tinder, Grinder and OK Cupid, which have rolled out gender inclusive features, such as letting users choose their preferred pronoun. Users can edit their gender selection by tapping 'Edit Profile' on their account, then selecting 'Gender.'
