“Our investigative work is complete, but we have not finalized a report,” Louisiana Inspector General Stephen Street wrote in a letter Wednesday to Gov. “In interviews and documents, 42 people at Ware held over the last 25 years described being sexually abused by staff members,” the report said. “In all, they identified 30 staff members who had sexually abused children at Ware.”Loftin was never personally accused of abuse, but women who were incarcerated at the facility as children and former staff members allege the center’s administration was indifferent to reports of alleged wrongdoing. John Bel Edwards asked the inspector general to look into Ware in November 2022 following The New York Times story. “Our investigative fieldwork is complete but the case remains open pending a final report,” Street told the Illuminator.
