Zarzis is the largest fishing port in southeast Tunisia, and along with the better-known island of Djerba immediately to the north, they carry a deep-rooted fishing culture. “The fishing culture goes back to the time of our grandfathers,” said Slah Eddine Mcharek, president of the Zarzis Fishermen’s Association. Zarzis’ waters have historically brought fishermen from far and wide.
