The new Bankside Hotel at One Blackfriars abuts the River Thames and looking out from its six storeys guests can see St Paul's Cathedral and reach the Tate Modern and the Globe theatre after a short walk to the east. And neither the exterior or interior gives off the feel of a large hotel group; instead, Bankside offers a feeling of independence and originality. For Bankside, Lee took inspiration from her surrounds. Instead of in-room water bottles, guests can fill jugs of chilled water - both still and sparkling - at service points on each corridor. In general, Bankside has a strong sense of identity and self, heralding an exciting new hotel type - blurring the lines between an independent property and a large chain.
