Inquest into lift worker's death told he may have accidentally dislodged locking device

Inquest into lift worker's death told he may have accidentally dislodged locking deviceSUPPLIED Otis Elevator Company technician Brendon Scheib was killed while working in the T&G Building, also known as the Harcourts Building, in January 2016. A lift company is raising the possibility one of its experienced technicians may have accidentally dislodged one of the lift's locking devices shortly before he was killed. MONIQUE FORD/STUFF Otis Elevator Company Limited general manager Dwaine Scott told an inquest that it was possible Brendon Scheib accidentally knocked a pit switch before he was fatally crushed. MONIQUE FORD/STUFF WorkSafe inspector John Conroy says it was possible Brendon Scheib realised a lift was coming down on top of him "too late". Counsel for the Scheib family, Daniel Vincent, asked Conroy whether he thought the switch was triggered accidentally, causing it to crush Scheib against the pit switch stop.
