An inmate has given birth alone and without pain relief inside her prison cell after staff were unable to open her door. The woman, who cannot be named to protect her privacy, gave birth inside Perth's Bandyup Prison last month when she was 36 weeks pregnant. 'The inmate gave birth very quickly after it was made clear she was going into labour… staff acted as soon as they could to manage the unexpected birth,' a spokesman said.
