Inland Kaikoura route opens for supplies onlyIain McGregor Contractors have cleared a path through major slips on the inland route to Kaikoura. Kaikoura District Council work crews and NZTA's Downer contractors working from both ends of the inland Kaikoura route met in the middle on Wednesday. This means military vehicles will be able to travel the still-damaged inland route to carry supplies to Kaikoura. ALDEN WILLIAMS/FAIRFAX NZ Army personnel who arrived in Kaikoura on Wednesday may assist in controlling traffic on the inland route when it is fixed. The inland route from the south is more easily fixed than the northern approaches to Kaikoura where numerous huge slips may require re-routing or major engineering over several months.
