Frances Twomey, a Limerick-based solicitor, was the Law Society’s alternate member on the PIC, which examined personal injury payouts. The PIC’s final report showed Irish insurers were paying out on average 4.4 times more than their British counterparts over the past three years. The PIC recommended that a new Judicial Council set new guidelines governing Irish payouts. In a submission to the PIC last April, released following a freedom of information request, Twomey said she was “shocked” by UK proposals to “obliterate” compensation in soft-tissue cases below £25,000 (€27,800).…
