Observers say the investigators have been remarkably slow to release information, fueling speculation in a case of enormous significance to the aviation industry and plane maker Boeing. “This is somewhat unprecedented,” says Mark Dombroff, an aviation attorney who directed the aviation division of the U.S. Department of Justice from 1971 to 1985. French authorities said on March 18 that they had transferred data to Ethiopian authorities recovered from the flight data and cockpit voice recorders aboard the Boeing 737 MAX airplane, which crashed six minutes after takeoff March 10 from Addis Ababa, killing all 157 on board. “Without a complete set of facts, every conclusion being drawn is complete speculation,” says Goglia. “To me it’s a head shaker why the Ethiopian authorities have not stepped out to put to bed some of the speculation,” Dombroff says.
