Infrastructure and capital spending by the government increased to P62.8 billion in June, boosting the year-to-date tally, according to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). In its latest disbursement report on Friday, the Budget department said the amount was 44.5-percent greater than the P43.5 billion spent a year earlier. For the second quarter, spending rose by 6.5 percent to P141.9 billion from P133.2 billion in the same period a year ago. The DBM said June spending was propelled by various projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), such as the construction, preventive maintenance, upgrading, widening, repair and rehabilitation of roads, bridges and flood-control structures. “This consists mainly of some P288.5 billion in agency-specific budget and some P237.8-billion allocation from [the] Special Purpose Funds,” it added.
