Inflation: Retail inflation in July picks up by 2.36%, first spike in three months


The Consumer Price Index (CPI) or retail inflation , as it is more commonly known, rose 2.36 per cent in July from a year earlier, after easing for three months, government data showed on Monday. They are also of the opinion that the inflation rate will ramp up further in the coming months. "The rise in prices of vegetables has been billed as the major reason behind the surge in inflation numbers. "Inflation of 2.36 per cent is in line with our expectations. This has largely been led by higher vegetable prices, which is also reflecting in WPI (Wholesale Price Index).
