Several garment scrap warehouses in Gazipur’s Konabari were gutted by fire on Thursday night. Six firefighting units managed to extinguish the flames after a five-hour effort, but they had to work till midnight to bring the situation under control. Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Md Akhtaruzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune: “A number of warehouses for garment scraps were located on the Konabari Jailkhana Road under Gazipur City Corporation. Six firefighting units rushed to the scene but had to struggle as there was no source of water nearby. According to sources, the fire gutted at least 15 to 16 warehouses and destroyed a big amount of stored goods.
