The injured have all been admitted to the burn unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). The victims undergoing treatment have all suffered damage to their respiratory tracts, Rafiq Ahmed, CMCH’s burn unit chief, told bdnews24.com. According to sources, the fire originated from the house of Abu Taher early in the morning and quickly spread to the neighbouring houses at Fazal Haque Saudagar Bari area in Hathazari municipality. Two units of Hathazari Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after two and a half hours. Hathazari Fire Service Senior Station Officer Md Shahjahan said: “It is believed that the fire started from an electrical short circuit.”Following the incident, Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Shahidul Alam visited the spot.
