Indonesian hostage rescued from Abu Sayyaf in Sulu


ZAMBOANGA CITY—Indonesian hostage Juragan Kapal Samsul Saguni was rescued on January 15, more than four months after he and his companion were held by the Abu Sayyaf. ADVERTISEMENTSaguni and his companion, Usman Yunos, were aboard a Malaysian fishing/trawler vessel, in the waters off Semporna, Sabah, on September 11 last year, when the Abu Sayyaf kidnapped them. Yunos, 35, was rescued by troops of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 3, Philippine Marine Ready Force Sulu and the Sulu Provincial Police Office on December 6 last year. Soldiers of the Joint Task Force Sulu facilitated the custodial debriefing of Saguni at the JTF Sulu headquarters in Barangay Bus-bus, Jolo, Sulu, Besana said. Brigadier General Pabayo, Jr. commander of the 11th Infantry Division, said five more foreigners and three Filipinos were in the hands of the Abu Sayyaf in the hinterlands of Sulu.
