The rally was organized by The Resistance Campaign, which is comprised of a group of Indigenous youth across Canada and is supported by the national Idle No More campaign. They are also looking for a repeal of Bill C-86, which made changes to management laws of First Nations land. For Auger and members of The Resistance Campaign, those changes are being done without adequate consultations with Indigenous communities across Canada. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW“It might be reworded, it might be a little bit more modern,” said Auger of the new bills being read in the Senate. “The (criticism is) that these new bills essentially talk about doing that, but in the end actually restrict Indigenous people’s abilities to govern themselves,” he said.
