About 200 people were evacuated from Neskantaga earlier this week after the water plant was shut down after an unknown substance was found in the reservoir. It has been more than 25 years since the First Nation had tap water that is safe to drink. Former Neskantaga Chief Wayne Moonias is one of a few dozen people who remain in Neskantaga First Nation. "There are a number of moving parts, I don't have a full sense of when that [the water plant opening] will occur but obviously as quickly as possible," he said. Once the water plant is fully operational, there are also problems with the waste water to be dealt with, he said.
