India's Rohingya wanted nowhere: 'Better you kill us than deport us'

"It is better you kill us here than deport us. Since August 25, a brutal crackdown by Myanmar's security forces has seen nearly 400,000 Rohingya escape into neighbouring Bangladesh, triggering a humanitarian catastrophe. Many among the 40,000 Rohingya currently living in India also crossed over to the country following large-scale riots in Myanmar in 2012. India's deputy minister for home affairs, Kiren Rijiju, insists Rohingya are illegal immigrants and issued orders to state governments last month to identify and deport them. This hardline stance stems from the belief that Rohingya are a potential security threat to India, as well as a burden on resources.
