NewsThe Indian High Commission said today it had not been notified of the Sri Lankan Government's decision to call off the Sampur coal power project. "As of today, we have not yet recieved any updates on the Sampur issue from GOSL," said Esha Srivastava, spokesperson. Meanwhile the Attorney General today apprised the Supreme Court that the Ministry of Power and Energy will not construct a proposed coal power plant in Sampur. The Environmental Foundation (Guarantee) Limited (EFL), filed the Fundamental Rights application in the Supreme Court objecting to the use of coal as a source of energy generation and in particular, the proposed Sampur Coal Power Plant, on May 31. India and Sri Lanka are locked in a controversial tug-of-war over the coal-fired joint venture power generation project at Sampur near Trincomalee.
