India successfully tests nuclear-capable ballistic missile

India has successfully test-fired a long range nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in a move that will further strain relations with Pakistan and China. The country's defence ministry said the surface-to-surface Agni-5 missile - believed to be India's most advanced ICBM - was fired on Thursday morning from Abdul Kalam island off the coast of the eastern state of Odisha. Analysts say the launch will boost indigenous missile capabilities and enhance India's deterrence strength. That launch drew strong condemnation from China and Pakistan - India's two most powerful geo-strategic adversaries. Relations between India and china deteriorated last June when India said it opposed a Chinese attempt to extend a road on the border of China, India and Bhutan.
