India move surprises Pakistan, other SCO members

A video journalist films flags of countries participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) foreign ministers’ meeting, outside the venue in Goa, India May 4, 2023. The official, while speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Express Tribune that Pakistan came to know about the decision through a letter written by India to SCO members including Islamabad on Tuesday. India is the current president of the SCO, which comprises Russia, China, Pakistan and key Central Asian states. India assumed the rotating chairmanship of the SCO at the Samarkand Summit on September 16, 2022. The statement confirmed that all SCO member states -- including China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan -- were invited to attend the summit.
