India fences half of its border with Bangladesh


India has finished fencing half of its porous border with Bangladesh and plans to seal off the rest by 2019 to curbing infiltration and smuggling of cattle and fake Indian currency notes, reports The Hindu. Bangladesh and India share a 4,096km border. Among Indian states, West Bengal shares 2,216.7km border with Bangladesh, Assam 263km, Meghalaya 443km, Tripura 856km and Mizoram 318km. We have sent a proposal to the government,” RP Singh, additional director-general of the Border Security Force, East, was quoted as telling the newspaper. RP Singh said fences would be put up the moment they get final approval for land acquisition.
