“We reiterate our commitment to sustainable development, strong and effective support and actions to address climate change. India was perceived to have come under increasing international pressure on climate change after China ratified the Paris Agreement on the eve of the summit. “Ratifying the agreement accords with China's policy of actively dealing with climate change,” official Xinhua news agency reported, adding that addressing climate change will help the country achieve sustainable development. “After their quick ratification of the Paris Climate Agreement, China and the US, the world's first and second-largest emitters of greenhouse gases, have led by example ahead of other emerging and industrialised economies,” said a commentary in the nationalistic tabloid Global Times. “ It is high time that the EU and India, the third- and fourth- largest emitters, also show they mean business when it comes to limiting the effects of climate change.”
