India bans Zakir Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation

The government labelled the Islamic Research Foundation as an “unlawful organisation” which was susceptible to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in India. The Times of India reported that an “unlawful” association is different from a “terrorist” organisation listed under UAPA. The Indian government claimed that Zakir Naik’s programmes on Peace TV were allegedly communal and pro-Jihad. Dr Zakir Naik has numerous cases filed against him in India, mostly allegations of inspiring people to become a terrorist. Zakir Naik is banned in the United Kingdom and Canada for his “hate speech”, reported the Times of India.
