India Today Impact: Rewari girls end fast, Haryana government assures upgrade for their school

In what can be seen as a major India Today impact, Haryana's Manohar Lal Khattar government has been forced to act after several girls of a government school in Rewari went on an indefinite hunger strike demanding an upgradation of their school. The girls wanted their school to be upgraded to senior secondary institution as they feared molestation while travelling to a school located in a different village. The Haryana government today issued a notification accepting the demands following which the girls ended the strike. On day 8 of the strike, many of the protesting girls were shifted to hospital after their condition deteriorated. India Today provided the girls, studying in class IX and X in Gothda Tappa Dahina village in Rewari, a platform to make their voices heard.
