Oil demand has been erratic in 2017-18 so far—growing by 6.1% in May and 2.4% in April. For July, diesel sales were up 8.5% at 6.3 million tonnes while petrol consumption was up 11.6% at 2.14 million tonnes. Oil demand had plunged 5.9% in January, the most in 13 years, after the shock demonetisation of high-value currency notes in November 2016.
