Anant, chief statistician of India (CSI), retired on Wednesday after holding the office for seven-and-half years. As chief statistician, Anant was in-charge of releasing key macro-economic data like gross domestic product (GDP) and retail inflation numbers. Anant was a professor at the Delhi School of Economics before taking charge as the CSI on 1 July 2010 from Pronab Sen, who was the first CSI.
