Increase seen in number of public-private R&D projects


Adapt and innovate: Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo VaradkarPrivate companies and State research bodies were engaged together in more than 2,100 collaborative projects at the end of 2019, representing a 19pc increase on the previous year. Figures from Knowledge Transfer Ireland - the Enterprise Ireland unit that helps businesses access publicly-funded research - also show that 26 new spin-out firms were established last year from the projects. More than 1,200 new agreements were signed last year with companies for research and development projects, noted Knowledge Transfer Ireland in an annual survey published this morning. "Never has the ability to adapt and innovate been more important for Irish businesses," said Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar. Knowledge transfer can provide a cost-effective means through which companies, regardless of size, can build on key areas of innovation capability, according to Knowledge Transfer Ireland.
