Increase annual allocations for non-Muslim bodies, Sabah govt urged

KOTA KINABALU: An assemblyman has called on the state government to consider increasing the annual allocation for non-Muslim bodies and schoolsDatuk Joniston Bangkuai (BN-Kiulu) today suggested the allocations for non-Muslim bodies, mission schools and independent schools to be increased to between RM35 million and RM40 million. Under the 2018 Sabah Budget tabled by Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman last Friday, a sum of RM32 million will be allocated to non-Muslim bodies, mission schools and independent schools. “Sabah has quite a sizeable non-Muslim population and it is heartening that the state government recognised their needs. As a non-Muslim assemblyman, I’m thankful to the chief minister for consistently providing annual allocations to non-Muslim bodies,” Bangkuai told the state legistive assembly today. According to figures from Kiulu Tourism Association, Kiulu saw 27,000 visitors last year while RM3million in revenue was generated from 40,000 visitors in Kiulu between Jan and Sept this year.
