Crimes increased in Hong Kong by 9 percent, or by 5,000 last year, the Police Commissioner Chris Tang Ping-keung says, adding there was a surge in robberies because police efforts were dedicated to controlling the unrest. The largest increases were recorded in criminal damage and arson incidents, Tang says. Tang, 54, took charge in November last year as the the seventh commissioner since the change of flag.
