Sir, – I was most impressed by The Irish Times interview on with Caelan Doris (“Caelan Doris: ‘Therapy opened a can of worms for me. His openness and honesty about his mental health will hopefully serve as a catalyst to other young people especially young men to seek help. Small children readily express their emotions but as they grow societal and sometimes family influences teach them to subdue them, sometimes leading to an inability to recognise and express their emotions healthily. At home and at school they need to be taught to learn to name their emotions followed by regulating them through balancing their logical minds with their emotional minds. Hopefully, Caelan as a role model in a high profile sport like rugby, will be an inspiration to young men rather than the toxic male role models prevalent on social media.
