The angry flames were finally placated on Thursday morningThe fire may have been doused, but the people of Chawkbazar will be reeling from the aftereffects for a while yet. The flames broke out and rapidly engulfed several multi-storey buildings at Nanda Kumar Lane in Chawkbazar’s Churihatta area of Old Dhaka on Wednesday night. It began with one solitary building from a reported transformer blast, and spread to several adjacent structures before anyone had a chance to react. The body count may rise as the Fire Service continues its recovery efforts. The angry flames were finally placated on Thursday morning, leaving Old Dhaka with irreversible damage.
