About 200 people screamed “wait” repeatedly as Amelia Montgomery tried to release the wrapping from a West Harlem street sign that bore the name of her late husband, Tuskegee Airman Dabney N. Montgomery. Those in the crowd wanted to capture the moment, which marked the first time a Manhattan street had been co-named for one of the airmen, African-American pilots and crew members whose performance in World War II opened the door for desegregation of the U.S. armed forces.
