The Election Commission had banned the Samajwadi Party (SP) minister from addressing public rallies because of communal utterances. But in SP tradition, whenever Mulayam Singh or chief minister Akhilesh Yadav visited Rampur, Azam Khan hosted them. Abdullah Azam Khan was called back home.
