Season 2, Episode 6 of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” aptly titled “First Blood,” digs into the backstory of Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) a little more. We learn that before Gilead she was a much-protested university-touring “provocateur,” in the style of Tomi Lahren and Ann Coulter, and that she survived an assassination attempt related to that. I agree that this episode felt a bit less brutal than the others ― we needed a reprieve.
