In Sierra Leone Elections, Electoral Body Issues 25% Results Of March 7 Polls, APC In The Lead -


The National Electoral Commission (NEC), Sierra Leone on Saturday in Freetown released 25% of the processed votes of the March 7 presidential, parliamentary and local council elections. According a dispatch from Freetown, quoting official results, the candidate of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) Dr. Samura Kamara got 44.6%; Rtd Brig. Julius Maada Bio of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) received 42%, while Kabdeh Yimkellah of the National Grand Alliance (NGC) is third with 6.6% of the processed votes. NEC Chair Mohamed N’fah Alie-Conteh who announced the results at a Press Conference appealed for calm explaining that the final results would be released as soon as possible. The electoral law provides for a presidential run-off vote if no candidate gains 55% of the vote in the first round balloting.
